Kilmarnock celebrate a goal that helped make it five defeats in a row for Saints.
Friday marked an important milestone for St Johnstone, as the club celebrated 25 years since the official opening of McDiarmid Park against Manchester United.
Since then, there have been plenty of high points over the years in Perth, probably more highs than lows in truth, but there can be no shaking the fact that Saints are currently in a slump – and it’s a mire they must clamber out of quickly.
Pundits have long suggested that Saints have over-achieved in recent seasons, enjoying top six finishes and Europa League football.
In doing that though, Saints have set the bar high, so it’s only natural for the fans to be concerned that their team are sitting in ninth spot after a fifth league loss on the bounce.
Some supporters have questioned the club’s decision to spend cash on infrastructure rather than on the team of late, and it is probably an issue worthy of further exploration.
But now is not the time for ifs, buts and what might have beens, now is the time for Saints to roll their sleeves up and dig themselves out of a hole.
