St Johnstone supporters have been badly let down

Ticket fiascos are nothing new in Scottish football, but St Johnstone being denied extra seats for Saturday’s League Cup semi-final is a low even by the standards of our governing bodies.

It may not have been a cast-iron guarantee but Saints – and their fans – were unquestionably led to believe that if they sold out their 3,300 allocation for the Roseburn Stand they would get up to 500 more in a section of the Main Stand.

If this was going to cause a problem for safety and security reasons, it was a carrot that should never have been dangled in the first place. That should have been determined long ago.

It’s my guess that whoever was round the table when ticketing and segregation was being planned (and you can include the police in that) assumed that little old Saints wouldn’t sell all their tickets, and didn’t think this was a bridge they would ever have to cross.

Well, cross the bridge they have had to. Or rather, fall off it.

St Johnstone supporters have been badly let down by either disdainful or incompetent officials. Or more likely, both.

And to not even get a public apology is disgraceful.
