Raith Rovers have revealed they were able to make three signings during the January transfer window thanks to a five-figure cash injection from two local businesses.

Stark’s Park boss Ray McKinnon had already used up his playing budget for this season but was able to add two loan players in Louis Longridge and Harry Panayiotou from Hamilton Accies and Leicester City respectively as well as snapping up Aidan Connolly after he left Dundee United thanks to the welcome financial support.

Fife AutoCentre and Bodywyse Autocare, whose principals Brian Meechan and Harry Younger are both staunch Raith Rovers fans, ploughed their cash into the club after being impressed by the job McKinnon is doing with Raith.

This is the second time this season that local firms have backed the club back in October, care home operators Colin and Margaret Smart agreed to provide extra funds for McKinnon to snap up former Scotland, Dundee United and Hibs midfielder Scott Robertson.

Chief Executive Eric Drysdale commented: “The club is very grateful to both Brian and Harry for their contribution. It’s tremendous that the business community is once more getting behind their local football club.

“I know Ray is most appreciative of the guys’ help and it gives him greater strength and depth which will be vital in the run-in.

“This is a great way for businesses to get behind Raith Rovers, and if anyone is interested in discussing how they might help in this way, or any other, please can they contact either Commercial Director Tom Morgan, Commercial Manager Laura Andreucci or myself at the club on 01592 263514 for an initial chat.”
