Raith Rovers to increase Stark’s Park capacity by 500

Raith Rovers have announced plans to increase the capacity of Stark’s Park by 500 ahead of a mouth-watering Scottish Championship campaign next term.

The Fife club will reopen a section of their historic Railway Stand in order to house extra away supporters, who have been previously confined to the Val McDermid Stand.

A club spokesperson confirmed the scheme is “the first phase of bringing the Railway Stand back into use”, while other facilities at Stark’s Park will be upgraded during a busy summer in Kirkcaldy.

Rovers will fund the changes from their own coffers, but the alterations are likely to pay for themselves next season, with several bumper travelling crowds expected to descend on the stadium.

A tantalising division next term will include the ample fan-bases of Hearts and Rangers, while there is still a chance great Fife rivals Dunfermline will be in the league if they can gain promotion through the play-offs.

The capacity of Stark’s Park will be boosted to around 9,000, dependent on the fixture.

Meanwhile, Rovers have agreed an extension to their lease of Stark’s Park from the ground’s owner, Stark’s Park Properties Ltd.

The new deal will see the club remain at their current home for a further two years, during which time negotiations will continue towards agreeing on a more long-term arrangement.
