Dundee boss Paul Hartley still to decide on player futures

Dundee boss Paul Hartley insists he hasn’t made his mind up yet over the futures of his players who are out of contract at the end of this season.

The Dark Blues have a whole host of players whose deals run out soon including the likes of David Clarkson, Jim McAlister, Kyle Letheren, Kevin McBride, Willie Dyer, Gary Irvine, Martin Boyle and Iain Davidson.

The manager has some big decisions to make and he admits he will do so over the next couple of weeks.

He said: “I think everybody is playing for their future.

“Every day you come in to work you play for your future, not just the players who are out of contract.

“The players who are in contract do that also.

“That’s what we stress to them every day you come in to work, you are playing for your livelihood.

“We haven’t made our minds up yet (over out of contract players). So we will probably have to sit down in the next couple of weeks with the players and their agents, talk to them and see what happens.”

While Hartley has still to decide over the out-of-contract players, he has already been making plans for next season with the capture of Rory Loy, Darryll Meggatt and Nicky Low on pre-contracts.

And he revealed that he is looking to strengthen even more with expectations having risen after Dundee made it into the top six this season.

Hartley said: “We are looking to maybe bring in three or four more players.

“I think we need to strengthen in certain areas of the pitch that need it.

“We want to be as strong as we can, to have a better squad than we did this season.

“We want to be competitive as the expectations have risen. Making the top six means people will be expecting us to be in the same position next year.

“So we have to make sure we have a really strong squad as I am certain everyone else will strengthen.

“We are working on a few things at the moment to see if we can bring a couple in.”
