Andy Robertson waved goodbye to Dundee United last night as he agreed a lucrative three-year deal with Hull City.

Robertson completed his switch, which has been priced at £2.85 million initially but will eventually rise to nearer £3m, at the KC Stadium.

As he opened up a new chapter in what has already been a remarkable story, the Scotland star who was playing amateur football for Queen’s Park just last year looked forward to facing Barclays Premier League giants such as Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, the 20-year-old left-back also paused to thank the Tangerines for their pivotal role in making him ready for the big time.

Robertson said: “(I would) like to say thanks to all the players, coaches, board members and fans at a special club who have been welcoming from day one.

“Couldn’t (have) asked for better!

“Sad to be leaving but looking forward to my new challenge and can’t wait to start at Hull.”

Robertson, who joined the Tigers along with Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire, added: “I am really looking forward to it now that it’s over the line.

“I can look forward to meeting the boys and getting down to training. When you are younger you look forward to playing in a league like this and the quicker I get started the better.

“I thought it could be the next chapter of my career.

“At United I had a great time up there and I thought this would be the perfect club for me as I take the next step. I am a left-back that likes getting forward so I can bring attacking threat, but I also think I am a good defender as well. I can keep the door shut when it’s required.”

Hull also completed the signing of defender Harry Maguire from Sheffield United for a £2.5m fee according to the club’s website.

The 21-year-old, capped once by England under-21s, was Sheffield United’s player of the year in each of the last three seasons, during which he made 166 appearances.
