19/01/13 CLYDESDALE BANK PREMIER LEAGUE KILMARNOCK V DUNDEE UTD (2-3) RUGBY PARK - KILMARNOCK Dundee Utd's hat-trick hero Johnny Russell celebrates his side's 3rd goal of the game.

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson says the club’s part in the Johnny Russell deal is over.

The Tannadice club now await the player going to Pride Park to put pen to paper on a deal with Derby County.

“We have agreed a fee with Derby, they have agreed terms with Johnny and he is due there on Monday to have a look around and a medical…and then decide,” he said.

“Nothing is ever totally done until it’s all signed but we have pretty much done everything we have to do.

“If it goes through, it will keep the bank happy. We have been cutting the debt and in five years we have cut the term loan we had by 50%.

“The bank takes a lot of money in debt reduction, which doesn’t help day-to-day, but it is important for the long-term.

“The balance I have to get is keeping a good team on the park and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“My aim as chairman is to maintain a team winning games in the SPL and, ultimately, eradicate the club’s debt.”

United, who are understood to have inserted a sell-on clause to the Derby deal, are still working on a possible loan deal with Blackburn Rovers to bring back David Goodwillie.

Thompson added: “If David is going to go anywhere in Scotland it would be here but I am still not sure whether that will happen or not.

“We have pushed the boat out for it but we will just have to wait and see how it goes.

“His is the kind of signing we feel will make a huge impact. In terms of the finance side, it’s probably at a level we’ve not seen since Ian McCall’s time at the club.”
