Todd Dutiaume praised his side, declaring: “I always believed in the guys.”
The Fife Flyers playcaller arrived in Kirkcaldy in the early hours on a high after being Belfast Giants, the Elite League champions.
The Rosslyn Street team rolled the Giants over 6-1, with forward Stephen Gunn named man of the match.
Coach Dutiaume said all members of his under-strength side were heroes including goaltender Kevin Regan who guided the Fifers to back-to-back wins at home to Braehead Clan (4-0) and then on the road at Belfast.
Former Great Britain defenceman Kyle Horne and American forward Matt Reber are still sidelined with concussion, while Chris Wands also missed the weekend games because of a shoulder problem.
American defenceman Jamie Milam was hurt during the game at Belfast and will be checked out early this week to see what the damage is.
Dutiaume said: “The Belfast result is one of our best ever on the road and ranks alongside the Coventry and Sheffield road wins last season they are all big.
“It is our first ever win in the Odyssey and a big result for this club. This game is about confidence and expectations were high (after the club’s storming end to last season).
“That brings pressure. Saturday’s shutout result was good for us against a team going well, and we knew we would be up against it on Sunday.
“There was a big travel involved as well, but everybody stepped up and played well. There were lots of candidates for man of the match, but Stephen with his two goals deserved it.”
Dundee Stars player/coach Jeff Hutchins had mixed emotions, despite the Tayside team beating Edinburgh Capitals back-to-back in the Challenge Cup, Group A.
On both occasions Stars held leads, 2-0 at Murrayfield on Saturday and 3-0 and 5-2 at the Dundee Ice Arena 24 hours later, but the Tayside team failed to kill the opposition off.
Hutchins was pleased John Mitchell claimed a treble on Sunday and that former Capitals star Martin Cingel chipped in with two assists on Sunday. Matt Ryan scored the game-winner in both games.
But the Great Britain international said: “We let them back in the game twice and we stopped doing the things which got us the lead.
“We’ll be working on that in training this week.”
He added: “I’m happy with the four points and with the fact that some of my big goal scorers got points on the board, but we can’t allow teams back into games.”
