Glasgow v Treviso: Warriors out to regroup after Heineken Cup nightmare

Glasgow will attempt to regroup after their nightmare Heineken Cup fortnight by recovering their Rabodirect PRO12 form against Treviso at Scotstoun.

The Warriors have lost their last three games at home ending a run of nine straight wins there dating back a year and badly need to get back on track if they are to stay in the play-off positions.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has conceded that the PRO12 is now the club’s target after successive losses to Cardiff left them with no qualification chance in the Heineken Cup, but is still upbeat, pointing out that the Warriors have more wins at this stage of the season than they did a year ago.

“We’re sitting third in the PRO12, so we’ve put ourselves in a good position with our early season form,” he said.

“We have to put the disappointment of Europe behind us and now concentrate on the league. There is plenty we can learn from our last two performances in the Heineken Cup and that is what we’ve been working on this week.”

Townsend has shuffled his line-up for the visit of the Italians, especially at half-back where Chris Cusiter will join Duncan Weir, with Niko Matawalu starting on the wing.

Tim Swinson, out with a chest injury since his man-of-the-match performance for Scotland against Japan, returns to the second row with Al Kellock and Johnny Gray expected to be out until the new year.

Ryan Grant is rested for Gordon Reid in the front row, while Josh Strauss, Tyrone Holmes and Ryan Wilson form a new back-row combination as Tonwsend continues to rotate players and roles in his side.

Townsend added: “Treviso are a tough side to play against and will provide us with a very physical contest. I expect our players to meet this challenge head on and take the game to our opponents.”
