Land Rover gave the motoring world a glimpse of a new zero-emission all-terrain vehicle powered by a high-tech battery system designed in Dundee.
Wester Gourdie-based Axeon, part of the Johnson Matthey Group, has been working with the iconic vehicle maker on a major research project to produce the world’s first fully capable all-electric off-roader.
The vehicles were given their debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
The two companies first worked together in 2011. Axeon has now provided Land Rover with battery packs for a further seven development vehicles.
The bespoke battery systems are designed to replaces the standard 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Land Rover Defender 110 models.
The battery is in the engine bay area ensuring the Defender maintains ground clearance and wading depth.
