High clearance rate at packed Beltex Scotland in-lamb sale

The Beltex Scotland in-lamb sale, which featured for the first time in the Scottish Winter Fair programme, attracted a packed ringside and a high clearance rate, with only four entries of those forward returning home unsold.

The pre-sale show was judged by Harry Emslie, Kinknockie, Mintlaw. His champion was a four-crop ewe, Kirklawhill My Word ET, shown by Richard Wood, of Kingledores, Tweedsmuir, Biggar.

She is by Brickrow Conrad out of Brickrow Juicy Lucy and was bred by Kevin Dempster.

Carrying twins to Airyolland Stormtrooper, she was knocked down at 1,800 gns to the judge and Stuart Wood, Woolhillock, Skene, Aberdeenshire.

A two-crop ewe from the same pen, Kingledores Pasha, made 1,100 gns to an undisclosed buyer.

She is by Kingledores Micky out of Whatmore Jura and also scanned in-lamb to Airyolland Stormtrooper.

The reserve champion Orkney Suzabella, a gimmer consigned by A&V Copland, Overhouse, Harray, Orkney, made 2,000 gns to Procters Farms Ltd, Slaidburn, Lancashire.

She is by Forglen ET out of Orkney Natalie ET and sold in-lamb to Artnagullion Top Dog.

This gimmer has had a successful show season, lifting the Beltex championships at Orkney County and Dounby shows.

Also selling at the same money was Andrew Baillie, Carstairs Mains, Carnwath, Lanark, who saw his two-crop ewe Callacrag Paris join the Blackjack flock of farming new entrants Ross and Kirsty Williams, who recently took on the tenancy of Upper Tullochbeg, Huntly.

Callacrag Paris is by Clary Navy out of Callacrag Model and scanned with twins to Muirton Toy Boy.

The Callacrag pen produced two sales at 1,500 gns the first for Callacrag Shavon, a Clary Prankster ET daughter out of Callacrag Perfect Match. She scanned in-lamb to Topflite Secret Weapon and joins Jim Young’s Muirton flock at, Corse, Alford, Aberdeenshire.

The second-prize Callacrag Sacha ET heads to Orkney to join the Woodwick flock run by Raymond Flaws at Nisthouse, Evie.

She is by Callacrag Rocky ET out of Callacrag Maid and also scanned in-lamb to Topflite Secret Weapon.

Meanwhile, Stuart Wood’s 1,100 gns bid secured Corstane Sexy-Nine, a Woodies Ringleader-sired gimmer out of Corstane Prime Penny ET.

This third-prize gimmer from Mary Dunlop, Corstane, Biggar, sold in-lamb to the 9,000 gns Padkin Sugar Daddy.

Ewe lambs sold to 650 gns for Lyonpark the Blacksheep ET, a Clary Supersonic ET daughter out of Lyonpark Pansy.

This ewe lamb from J Kennedy, Lyonston Farm, Maybole, sold to T Fitzsimmons, Sunnyhill Lodge, Holywood Road, Dumfries.

The 400 gns proceeds of the sale of Clyde Show-Off, a gimmer from Tom Linton, the Firs, Muirhouse Farm, Cleghorn, was donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Willie Currie.
