Aberdeen is to host Scotland’s newest big music festival, Northern Lights.
Following in the footsteps of Rockness and Belladrum, Seaton Park will host chart favourites including Madness, Maximo Park and Paloma Faith on the weekend of July 30 and 31.
Northern Lights will see more than 50 acts take to three stages in the city, and will also include big acts like Kelis, The Waterboys, The Noisettes, Idlewild, Tinchy Stryder, Edwyn Collins, The Futureheads, The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks and Aberdeen’s Xcerts.
In addition, an arena focusing on the best of dance music from Europe’s top DJs will see Scotland’s favourite electro mixmaster Mylo take to the decks, along with Example, Audio Bullys and Sander Van Doorn.
The festival is the first of its kind for the city and the north-east, and will be a platform to showcase homegrown talent as well as established acts.
Festival director Jim Sandison said “There’s always been a huge appetite for live music in Aberdeen and the Northern Lights music festival will now provide a platform for big-name acts as well as breakthrough bands to play to the people of the north-east.
“This is a hugely exciting new venture, and we’re delighted by the calibre of acts we’ve attracted for our inaugural festival.”
