Four of the biggest names on the planet in darts, including two world champions, will perform in Arbroath this summer.

The 2013 and 2016 Lakeside World Champion Scott Waites will be joined by 2006 Lakeside champion Jelle Klaasen; three-time major winner Robert Thornton; and former English, Belgian, Czech and German Open winner Dean Winstanley for the exhibition at Shotz on Saturday August 13.

The Angus event has been organised by Tayside firefighter and Scotland international Alan ‘Soots’ Soutar.

The former Royal Marine, who lives in Arbroath, established the Angus Darts Academy in 2013 and said it is a privilege to be bringing so many big names to the town for what will be a “special night”.

Mr Soutar said “We’ve got four champions performing in an intimate setting and we are expecting tickets to go fast.

“Tickets will be limited to 150 so we would advise darts fans that want to get involved in what will be a superb and entertaining night to get in touch now.”

Scott ‘Scotty 2 Hotty’ Waites is a two-time Lakeside World Champion and is also a former Winmau World Masters champion, WDF World Cup singles’ champion, Zuiderduin Masters champion. The player is also the only BDO representative to ever win the PDC’s Grand Slam of Darts.

Robert ‘The Thorn’ Thornton is a three-time major winner between the BDO and PDC. His competitive CV also includes victories in the World Masters in 2007, UK Open in 2012 and World Grand Prix in 2015.

Thornton is also a former finalist at the Players Championship Finals in 2009 and Grand Slam of Darts in 2013.

Jelle ‘The Cobra’ Klaasen became the youngest World Darts Champion, when he defeated fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld in the 2006 final at Lakeside by seven sets to five.

Dean ‘Over the Top’ Winstanley first took up darts as a two-year-old but stopped playing at the age of 12, before taking up the game again when he was 22.
