A man has been remanded in custody to stand trial accused of a series of offences — including an allegation he attacked a man with a hammer at a Dundee multi.
Martin Conroy, 21, appeared at the city’s sheriff court facing a total of six charges, all of which he denied.
It is alleged that on March 25, at High Street, Dundee, Conroy, of The Hedges, Tranent, East Lothian, carried out a racially aggravated assault on Maurice Uwayo by attempting to spit on him.
Conroy is further alleged to have behaved in a threatening and abusive manner and made offensive remarks to Mr Uwayo, before going on to steal alcohol from Tesco Express in the Nethergate.
It is also alleged that on March 29, at Elders Court, he assaulted James Young by repeatedly striking him on the head with a hammer, to his injury, and that he possessed an offensive weapon, namely the hammer.
A sixth charge alleges that Conroy breached bail by attending Kirk Street in the Lochee area while subject to conditions not to enter the street.
The court heard Conroy, who appeared from custody, was subject to three bail orders at the time of the alleged offences.
Sheriff Tom Hughes set a trial date for April 25, with an intermediate diet to take place on April 17.
