Drunk man sat on road in front of police car outside Dundee pub

A yob who had been out drinking after a funeral walked on to a road and sat down — blocking a police car on an emergency call.

Bradley Forsyth, 25, of Polepark Road, Dundee, was at the Stobswell Bar on Monday night when he walked out in front of the vehicle — which had its blue lights flashing — and refused to move.

PC Darren Smith and PC Stewart Henry were forced to get out their vehicle and carry Forsyth on to the pavement.

Fiscal depute John Adams said: “Around 9pm on Monday officers were on their way to an emergency call.

“As they were passing the Stobswell Bar the accused Forsyth was in the road.

“The officers tried to remonstrate with him to get out of the way. He refused. The officers had to get out of the vehicle to approach Forsyth.

“The police officers had to remove him to the pavement and then they continued to the emergency call.”

PC Ryan Marshall and PC Victoria Taylor were then dispatched to find Forsyth.

When they arrived Forsyth resisted them and tried to remove his shirt in a bid to escape.

Meanwhile, his pal Thomas Henderson, also 25, of Westcroft Place, then assaulted PC Taylor and struggled with other officers.

The fiscal depute said: “Officers Taylor and Marshall returned to the locus to deal with Forsyth.

“As they approached, Henderson interjected to ask if he could help. Forsyth then said, ‘What the **** you doing? Don’t touch me’.

“He began to struggle with the officers. He tried to get away and Henderson attempted to kick Constable Taylor on the head.

“He then struggled with the other officers in an attempt to assist Forsyth.

“Assistance was requested and a number of other officers attended but by the time they arrived the situation was being handled.”

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Forsyth admitted obstructing police while Henderson admitted assault.

Solicitor Kevin Hampton, defending for Forsyth, said: “He had been at a funeral that day.

“Mr Forsyth had far too much alcohol and has no recollection of these events at all.”

Sentence was deferred until December 6 for reports. Forsyth was taken into custody and Henderson released on bail.
