Police investigate death of Alexander, 39

Police are investigating the “unexplained” death of a 39-year-old Dundee dad.

Alexander Whyte’s body was discovered by family members at his flat in Arklay Terrace.

Emergency services were called but Mr Whyte was pronounced dead at the scene.

His stepmum Catherine Stewart described him as “a real family man”.

She told the Tele: “I went to the shop with Sandy’s stepson.

“When we came back Sandy’s sister was standing in the street, screaming.

“I went over to ask if everything was OK and had to take his daughter out of the flat. She was very upset.

“Sandy was a real family man.

“He doted on his daughters and was really good with the kids.

“He was always giving them money or sweets.

“He was always good to me and to the rest of the family. He will be sadly missed.”

Neighbours said Mr Whyte, a father of four, had not been seen since last Wednesday, so his daughter went to check on him just after 4pm on Saturday.

She was said to have received no answer to her knocks and peered through the letterbox to see her dad’s dog “going daft” inside.

She then kicked the door open and discovered her dad’s body inside.

One neighbour said: “I heard screaming so I came out of my flat to help.

“His daughter was very upset — hysterical. She said her dad was not well and could I help.”

An ambulance was called at 4.15pm but when paramedics arrived Mr Whyte had already passed away.

Police arrived around 4.30pm on Saturday and several officers remained in attendance until Sunday afternoon.

Residents saw officers with forensic equipment, cameras, blue gloves and boxes and bags, moving between the flat and vehicles.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the death is still being treated as suspicious several days on, adding: “A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service added: “We received an emergency call from a member of the public at 4.15pm on Saturday and we attended the address.

“Nobody was transported to hospital.”
