Dundee sex offender who targeted girls given supervision order

A man known as “Creepy Gibby” who committed sex offences against children has been banned from having contact with any females under the age of 17.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Gibson Dunbar, 49, was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for three years, placed under three years supervision and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Dunbar was previously found guilty of historical sex offences against two women, who were children at the time.

A jury found him guilty after trial of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards one girl in the late 1980s and early 1990s, in Dundee.

He was also found guilty of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards a second girl in the mid 1990s, also in Dundee.

Dunbar had denied the charges. Solicitor advocate Jonathan Crow, defending, said: “He lives in Fintry and after his convictions there has been some problems with locals. As a result he has moved to his mother’s address in Newcastle.”

Sheriff Carmichael said he had considered the impact his behaviour had on the women, but added: “This behaviour happened between 19-26 years ago and since then you’ve been in trouble only three times, and none for sexual matters.”
