A Brechin thug threatened hotel staff and ranted at police using homophobic language during a late-night ruckus at a Dundee Premier Inn.
Steven Warden, 40, drank “way too much” while staying at the Kingsway travel motel in September 2020.
Staff were called to a noise complaint coming from his second-floor room.
After they chapped his door, he threatened to “kick their c***s in” if they turned up at his room again.
Staff then called police.
Noise complaint
At Dundee Sheriff Court, Warden, of Montrose Street, was also sentenced for a separate assault.
He admitted attacking Robbie Mill with a golf club at Dunbar Park, Whitfield, in October last year.
Depute fiscal Gavin Barton told the court: “The accused was residing overnight at the Premier Inn.
“At 3am, hotel staff attended at his room in relation to a noise complaint.
“He appeared annoyed.”
Mr Barton said Warden was told to “keep noise to a minimum”.
“He responded to them saying: ‘If you come back, I will kick your c***s in,'” the fiscal depute told the court.
“Police attended at the establishment at 5.15am and knocked on his door.
“The accused shouted at police to get out of his room.
“They attempted to calm him down.
“He resisted. He was arrested and conveyed out of the door to a police car.
“As he was taken to the station he called one of the officers ‘gay boy’ and ‘f****t’.
“When he was cautioned and charged, he replied ‘he is a p****’.”
‘Acting an idiot’
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie, in mitigation for Warden, told the court: “He is 40. The last time he troubled the court was in 2014.
“He has no outstanding matters.
“In the report you can see he said he was ‘acting an idiot’.
“He had drunk way too much.”
Sentencing Warden, Sheriff Paul Brown said: “You have crossed the threshold for custody.
“I am told there is however an alternative to custody available to me.
“But I should warn you, if you breach this alternative then the option of sending you to prison is open to me.”
Warden was given a structured deferred sentence for three months and placed on a Restriction of Liberty curfew for 180 days.
