Fife Council says it won’t know until Sunday afternoon whether schools can reopen on Monday.
Fife’s schools have been shut since Wednesday but, with the worst of the weather thought to be over, the local authority is hoping children can get back to classes as soon as possible.
A spokesman said: “Janitors will be in our schools over the weekend checking building conditions and heating.
“We’ll keep monitoring road and travel conditions, which will remain difficult over the weekend, so it will be Sunday afternoon at the earliest before we can decide whether schools can reopen on Monday.
“We know you need to know and we’ll bring you updates as soon as we can! Thanks to parents for their patience and understanding.”
All Courier country schools have been closed for the last two days, meaning pupils have enjoyed an unexpected holiday.
