A children’s charity has marked the end of an era in Montrose after closing the doors of its High Street premises.

Barnardo’s Scotland has extended its thanks to everyone who supported the shop over many years, either through donations or by purchasing goods there.

It said money raised in the shop went directly to community-based services across Angus, supporting children, young people and their families.

Barnardo’s also paid tribute to the army of volunteers who sorted and displayed stock, as well as serving customers.

Shop manager Linda Cook said: “I am proud to have worked with such a dedicated and happy team.

“We would like to thank the people of the town for their support over the years and we hope they realise just how much of a difference they’ve made to so many local lives.”

Area business manager Carole Robertson said: “Thanks in part to the support of our charity shops, last year we were able to support 16,300 children and young people across the country.

“It is a fantastic achievement to have transformed the lives of so many families.

“We would very much like to continue supporting families in Angus. We will continue to welcome donations at our other shop in Arbroath.”

Barnardo’s Scotland works with more than 16,300 children and young people in more than 140 specialised community-based services across Scotland.

It continues to operate more than 100 shops.
