SNP minister Jenny Gilruth has married former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale on a “wonderfully happy day” in Fife.

The couple said they were feeling “blessed” after tying the knot in front of family and friends at a ceremony on Saturday at Teasses Estate, Ceres.

The couple told The Courier: “This was a wonderfully happy day for us, and we were blessed to share it with family and friends.

“Thank you to everyone who made our day so special.”

Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon was among the guests, alongside former SNP Constitution Secretary Michael Russell, the Scottish Parliament’s former Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick, and ex-Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray.

The wedding was held in the walled garden at the country estate.

‘Love really does conquer all’

The couple confirmed in July 2017 that they had been dating for about four months.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wished them every happiness at the time, tweeting: “So love really does conquer all!”

Ms Dugdale was Scottish Labour leader but resigned from the post a few weeks after the announcement in August 2017.

She quit Holyrood in 2019 to become director of the John Smith Centre for Public Service, based at the University of Glasgow. Ms Dugdale is also a columnist for The Courier.

Ms Gilruth worked as a teacher in Edinburgh and Dunfermline before being elected as the SNP MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes in 2016.

She was named transport minister in January, having previously served as minister for culture, Europe and international development since 2020.
