Two Fifers who discovered love at a supermarket checkout have proved that romance can be found in unusual places.
Ronnie Smith (61) met Mona Walker (59) in Asda, Fulmar Way, Dalgety Bay, when she was buying her groceries.
The pair from Dalgety Bay started talking and found they had a lot in common-and now they will be married on July 2 at Aberdour Castle.
Ronnie and Mona who have both been married before began dating, got engaged and will now tie the knot.
Ronnie told how romance blossomed. “I work on the checkout at Asda and serve customers and I like talking to the public,” he said.
“I started talking to Mona and one thing led to another… It’s really nice. When she comes in I always say ‘here comes wee blondie.’
“When we met it was like our parallels collided.
“We’ve both been married previously and have children so our families are delighted for us.
“I have a son Spencer (37) and Mona has three children, Vanessa (17), Anna (32) and Kirsty (34).
“It’s great that we met real love at the checkout.”
And Mona, who is a nurse at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, revealed that her elder daughter was a ‘matchmaker’ in getting the pair to go out with each other.
“Kirsty and I had been shopping at the store and when we came out she said to me, ‘You should get someone like him he looks like he takes care of himself.’
“I thought Ronnie had looked nice and we started dating in August 2009 and then got engaged in February last year. Once we started going out it was like I had known Ronnie all my life.
“I’m looking forward to the big day.”
