Young Angus photographer’s work in vogue

An Arbroath teenager is beginning to make a name for herself in the world of fashion and art photography.

Former Arbroath High School pupil Siobhan Diamond (19) has already been working in photography for three years.

The self-taught teenager opened her own business after she recovered from an illness, which prevented her from finding other work.

Siobhan said starting on her own was a struggle and just a little bit daunting.

“I worked in lots of different jobs when I was younger but after I was ill I couldn’t get work, ” she told The Courier this week.

“I’ve always loved photography but I didn’t have any money and all my cameras were just compacts.

“Then a friend gave me a shot of a Canon DSLR and I just started learning how to work it.”

Siobhan shot friends’ portraits and built a studio in her father’s shop in Dundee.

She also received support from Gordon Forbes at Frameworks in Dundee.

“I used to go and make cups of tea and help move lights in the studio and Gordon then started letting me shadow him and start printing, which was really nice of him, ” she added.

Siobhan has moved her studio back to her home in Arbroath and has taken on commercial contracts.

She has also worked for the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and has been invited to do an exhibit in a show for the Red Shed Collective.
