The public will get a rare chance to see behind the scenes at the Forth Road Bridge this summer when the bridge authority opens its doors for its second open week.
Guided tours will be available from June 13 to 18, featuring a minibus tour of the structure at deck level followed by a visit to one of the main cable anchorage chambers.
Senior members of staff at the bridge will provide expert commentary and answer any questions. The public will also have the opportunity to see the bridge’s iconic towers at close hand by booking in advance.
The Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) agreed to the open week following a positive reaction from the public at the first one, held in October 2009. This event attracted more than 1000 visitors and generated good feedback. Of the 451 visitors that completed a questionnaire, over 97% thought the event should be repeated.
FETA convener Phil Wheeler said, “We’re delighted to be welcoming the public back to the Forth Road Bridge this summer. These tours received rave reviews at our previous open week in 2009, when they were over-subscribed, so this time we’re making over 200 extra places available.”
The one-hour tours will depart from the bridge office in South Queensferry every half hour from 5pm until 6.30pm from Monday, June 13, until Thursday, June 16, and then every 15 minutes from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, June 18.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Bookings are now being accepted and places can be reserved by emailing info@forthroadbridge.org or phoning 0131 3191699.
