Police investigation after suspicious fire at Angus cottage

Police have launched an investigation into a suspicious fire at a remote Angus cottage.

The incident was said to have occurred after Sunday, January 2, and the scene was discovered on Saturday.

It is understood that the blaze may have gone unnoticed as the property, at Kirkton of Menmuir near Brechin, is unoccupied.

A Tayside Police spokesman told The Courier that the house had sustained “extensive damage.”

He said, “Police are keen to narrow down the between times when this fire has occurred and would appeal to anyone who may have seen a fire in the open or anything suspicious in that area to contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or any police officer.”
