‘Fight back on’ after Arbroath legal highs shop reopens under new name

Angus residents are up in arms after the reopening of a so-called legal highs shop in Arbroath.
Campaigners say “the fight is back on” after a former “head shop” on Brothock Bridge reopened under a new name and is once more selling legal high substances.
Formerly known under the name Declaration, the shop shut down in May after Aberdeen-based businessman Liston Pacitti had been put under immense public pressure demanding an end to the selling of powdered psychoactive substances, or legal highs, in the shop.
Declaration’s sister shop in Montrose, The High Life, had also closed its doors at the end of May but it is also open again.
But both stores are now operating under the brand Evapeolution, once more selling what Angus police commander Gordon Milne has branded “hideous substances”.
And while the windows of both shops are filled with e-cigarette displays rather than any substances, activist Lyn Torrance said it is up to residents to take the lead in ensuring legal highs are pushed out of the town.
“People need to stand up and do something,” she said. “The fight is definitely back on.”
