Turbine gets go-ahead on review

Turbine gets go-ahead on review

A decision to refuse a 49 metre wind turbine application in a field near Brechin has been overturned.

Angus Council’s development management review board has given conditional approval for the 100 kilowatt turbine to be located in a field 600 metres north west of Balhall Lodge in Menmuir.

The application was previously refused by the council under delegated powers in April.

At that time it said the site would not be capable of absorbing the proposed turbine into the landscape and that it would result in an unacceptable visual impact.

However, this decision was reversed after Harmony Energy Limited applied for the review.

The company stated that another turbine nearby had a hub to tip height of 279.5 metres above sea level but that this turbine, although located higher up the hill, would only measure 279 metres above sea level.

It added that “considerable care” was given to the turbine’s location, including dialogue with Historic Scotland, to achieve minimum impact on the surrounding landscape.

It noted that Historic Scotland had not objected to the proposal.

Planning permission will be granted subject to appropriate conditions being submitted to the next meeting of the development management review committee for approval.

The turbine will produce approximately 380MWh of power a year.
