A planning application has been lodged to construct two football training pitches for Carnoustie Panmure Football Club.

The training facilities on Panbride Road would form an extension to the Carlogie football pitches.

The club, which is a registered charity, has 23 teams and almost 530 players aged from five to 70. There are 65 coaching staff all of whom have SFA coaching qualifications.

It leases land in a variety of locations around Carnoustie including pitches adjoining this application site off Newton Road.

A planning statement on behalf of the club from Ristol Consulting Ltd states that the club has a vision of providing modern facilities that provide a sporting chance for the entire community.

It adds: “Central to achieving this vision is the consolidation of facilities into one dedicated location to make access and use for training more accessible, aligned with the club’s training programme.

“This will then enable wider community use of the current pitches at Pitskelly and the high school currently used by the club.

“Land at Panbride Road is ideally suited to meet this vision by virtue of its proximity to the club’s Carlogie site, physical attributes, size and accessibility for the majority of members.”

Panmure’s plans were included as part of a public exhibition for a residential development on land west of Carlogie Road.

The residential development by Angus Estates Ltd and Muir Homes Ltd is promoting the delivery of the pitches as part of an amenity enabling proposal.

The plan is for one pitch for youth football measuring 55 x 87m and another for adults measuring 69 x 106m. The pitches will be drained, grassed and designed in accordance with Scottish Football Association specification.

This will include spectator areas but the pitches will not be floodlit and there will be no stands. A gravel car park with bike racks is proposed on the eastern part of the site.

Carnoustie Panmure chairman Philip Hope states: “It is clear that we need additional pitches to cope with the number of teams we currently have and our plans to keep growing need more pitches.

“Our current pitches are frequently over-used and need a lot of TLC to keep them available.

“Should these plans come to fruition we aim to convert Pitskelly Park to entirely seven-a-side pitches.

“The 11-a-side teams will then move to Carlogie Park and the new park on Panbride Road.

“These new pitches are required to help us help the community to stay active and become involved in sport without having to travel long distances.”
