Kirriemuir has welcomed a rock-mad Spanish family who made a pilgrimage of almost 2000 miles from their home in Cordoba to pay tribute to one of the town’s most famous sons.
The Angus burgh hosts a range of festivities to mark the 65th anniversary of the birth of AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott on July 9 and when long-standing fan Enrique Diaz Galvez heard of the plans, he decided to make a donation.
The Gateway to the Glens museum was delighted when Enrique along with partner Inma and children Sergio and Lourdes donated a limited-edition T-shirt in honour of the occasion.
The shirt was designed for the recent opening of Calle de AC/DC, a street in Leganes near Madrid, and was one of only 50 made. Enrique, an avid fan of the group since 1978, told museum staff the items were never intended to be sold.
The museum will be displaying a range of AC/DC memorabilia in honour of the anniversary of the birth of Bon Scott, who moved from Kirriemuir to Melbourne, Australia, in 1952.
Museum assistant Rachel Jackson said staff had already taken delivery of at least 100 artefacts, and expected to have much more when the celebrations come round.
As well as the exhibition, local music promoters DD8 Music will also be arranging a series of concerts to mark the milestone over the weekend of July 9 and 10.
The shows will feature up-and-coming local talent as well as a host of AC/DC tribute acts.
Bon Scott died following a night out in London in 1980. He was just 33.
