Dundee are off to a better start this campaign than their 2013/14 title-winning season.
Dundee are off to a better start this campaign than their 2013/14 title-winning season.

Dundee FC fans will have a chance to cheer their promotion-winning heroes at a special ceremony in City Square on Sunday.

The team will display the SPFL Championship trophy from the balcony at City Chambers.

Lord Provost Bob Duncan said: “I am extremely proud of the team’s efforts throughout a long and often hard-fought league campaign.

“For Dundee to come out on top is a brilliant achievement for the players, the club, all of the backroom staff at Dens and indeed for the city of Dundee.

“So it is fitting that the team should be invited to the civic heart of the city to mark this occasion and give fans and wellwishers a chance to join in.”

Entertainment will begin in City Square at noon, with the team due to arrive at 12.45pm.

The lord provost will then welcome them on to the balcony to show off their trophy to thousands of spectators at 1pm.

Dundee FC’s chief executive Scot Gardiner said: “We are honoured to accept this invitation from the lord provost and delighted to be able to give families the chance to celebrate in the City Square with the team on Sunday.

“We are sure it will be a colourful occasion.”

With a large crowd expected, the council is asking fans to arrive early to secure a good vantage point. Access to City Square will be stewarded and numbers will be restricted on safety grounds.

There will be an area set aside for wheelchair users in the south-west corner and First Aid and lost children facilities will be located at 18 City Square.
