Campaigners have welcomed the commitment shown by Dundee City Council to addressing the negative and stigmatising attitudes encountered by many people living on low incomes.
The local authority is to become the first in Scotland to sign up to the Stick Your Labels campaign.
It is being coordinated by the Poverty Alliance, which wants to counteract what it believes is a “hardening of attitudes” towards welfare.
Director Peter Kelly said: “People living on low incomes are regularly labelled as cheats, scroungers and skivers.

“The reality is very different, with people doing all they can to make ends meet in difficult circumstances.
“The Stick Your Labels campaign is about challenging the myths that surround poverty and ending the stigma that people experiencing poverty often face.”
Council leader Ken Guild said the local authority and its partners are committed to finding solutions to poverty and providing better life chances for local people.
