Investigation launched after infant found with ‘unexplained’ injuries at Dundee home

A Dundee home is at the centre of a probe after an infant was discovered to have sustained “unexplained” injuries.

Police officers have been at the house in Dunmore Street since Friday carrying out detailed investigations.

They have so far been unable to establish how the youngster came to be hurt and continue to look into the injuries in conjunction with social services and health partners.

It’s not thought that the injuries are life threatening, but Police Scotland declined to comment on their exact nature.

Neighbours reported a heavy police presence at the house, in the city’s Kirkton area, with uniform, CID and forensics officers all present.

They were said to have been arriving and leaving “in shifts” over a 72-hour period, with a uniformed officer standing guard outside at all times.

That presence has been stood down, but Police Scotland said the investigation was continuing with all partners still involved.

It’s understood that the response was “standard practice” for an “unexplained” incident involving a child in which every effort is still being made to establish the circumstances.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland is carrying out an investigation in relation to an infant child who sustained unexplained injuries at an address in Dunmore Street, Dundee.

“A joint investigation is being carried out along with health partners and Dundee City Council Children and Families Services.”
