Vandals cause thousands of pounds worth of damage in Broughty Ferry street

Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage in a Broughty Ferry cul-de-sac.

Hooligans targeted Panmure Street in the dead of night, smashing cars and terrifying local residents.

Police are now hunting those behind the crime after at least six wing mirrors were smashed on the cul-de-sac.

But one local resident, Lita Kelly, said she was disappointed with the force’s response.

The 55-year-old said: “I know it is not the most serious of crimes, but it has cost people on the street a lot of money potentially.

“One neighbour, a master’s student, is going to have to pay about £500 to get her wing mirror fixed.

“Yet I contacted the police and haven’t heard a thing back. I know there are more important things going on, but still, I’m quite disappointed.

“It gives the wrong impression if acts like this by wanton vandals aren’t properly followed-up.”

Last night police insisted that they were treating the claims seriously and that they would be in touch with the victims.

A spokesman added: “We are aware of at least two incidents on Panmure Street overnight between July 31 and August 1.

“Inquiries are at an early stage.”

Lita believes that the vandals may have struck at about 2am on Saturday morning.

The 55-year-old said she was woken by a loud noise outside, while she said a neighbour caught a glimpse of a man running along the street, but was unable to get a description.

She added: “This is the first time something like this has happened in quite a while. We haven’t had something like this for a long time.

“It is a cul-de-sac and normally very quiet.”

On July 17, vandals smashed the wing mirrors off at least 15 cars on Broughty Ferry’s Brook Street and St Vincent Street.

Anyone who has information regarding the incidents or wishes to report damage to their vehicle should contact Police Scotland on 101 or speak to any officer.
