Roseangle parking spaces loss ‘only temporary’

Residents in Dundee’s west end have been assured that the routing of a cycle path through a busy local car park will not lead to the loss of a significant number of parking spaces in the area.

Councillor Fraser Macpherson said he had been approached by residents who feared that a whole row of spaces was to be removed from the car park in Roseangle.

However, Mr Macpherson continued, he had received assurances from the city council’s head of transport Neil Gellatly that the loss of that number of spaces was only temporary.

“I am pleased to be able to reassure residents that a lot of vital parking provision in this very busy car park will not be lost”

The loss of spaces would only be while work goes on to provide a marked cycle route through the car park, linking the Seabraes cycle path with the soon to be upgraded route through Magdalen Green, linking to Windsor Street.

Mr Gellatly added that one space may be lost on a permanent basis, where the Seabraes path meets the car park. He would discuss the matter further with the engineers involved in the project.

“Residents rightly point out that parking in this part of the west end is difficult enough and that particular car park is so busy that a loss of spaces would mean more local residents who cannot get parked near their homes,” said Mr Macpherson.

“I am pleased to be able to reassure residents that a lot of vital parking provision in this very busy car park will not be lost.

“However, it remains important that the city council moves forward residents’ parking im-provements in this area of the west end as promised as parking is so difficult here.”
