A sports car has been destroyed by fire in what Fife police believe was a deliberate attack.

Officers in Kennoway are investigating the circumstances that led to the Porsche Boxster being completely gutted by the blaze in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Firefighters from Methil were called out to Hallfield Gardens at 3.20am to find the vehicle well alight, although they were able to bring the situation under control within 20 minutes.

The top-of-the-range Porsche worth £46,000 had been parked outside the home of Lorraine Warrender, who claimed her boyfriend who had the car as his BMW was in for repairs received a threatening text before the incident took place.

She went on to allege that the vehicle had also been targeted by vandals earlier in the week.

She added: ”I got up late last night to get a drink for my wee one and when I got downstairs I noticed a light coming through the front window. The whole car was on fire. It was terrifying.”

Thankfully no one was injured but police said they are treating the fire as suspicious and believe it was started on purpose some time between 2.30am and 3am.

A spokesman said: ”The fire was quickly controlled but the brand-new Porsche Boxster will be a write-off.”

It is understood the vehicle was a courtesy car, while the BMW was in for repair.

Anybody with information is asked to call police on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
