A pair of Fife police officers saved a Lundin Links house from burning down in a late night fire.
Constables Alan Shovlin and Greg Mizerny were on patrol in the town on Saturday night when they smelled smoke.
After tracking the smell on foot for around a quarter of a mile they discovered a house on fire at Penrice Park.
Neighbours on both sides were evacuated until firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
PC Shovlin said: “We were just in the right place at the right time. We initially weren’t sure what it was, these things can sometimes be serious so we got out to investigate.
“It was a clear night so we could follow the smoke. When we saw the house I got people out of the other houses while Greg knocked on their door.”
Police Scotland commended the officers for their actions, however they were quick to downplay their roles.
Local area commander, chief inspector Adrian Annandale said: “The actions of PC’s Mizerny and Shovlin have undoubtedly prevented a far worse outcome and demonstrates their commitment to keeping people safe.”
The house was only slightly damaged and residents John and Valerie Ballingall said the officers has saved the building.
“They were absolutely fantastic. We sleep in the extension at the back there, so we didn’t know about the fire until they came knocking.”
The Fire Investigation Team was called from Livingstone but the cause of the fire has still to be determined.
Tom Fox of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “I would like to thank the two officers for their quick thinking.
“If it had been left any longer the fire would have been through the house and the attic.”
