Glenrothes man jailed for threats to ‘gut’ and ‘kill’ person

A Glenrothes man has been jailed for four months after threatening to gut someone while pretending he had a knife.

Kyle Bowes, 21, of Solway Place, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm at Rothes Gardens, Glenrothes, on May 4.

He pleaded guilty to shouting, swearing and threatening people, while stating he had a knife.

Bowes issued threats such as “I’m going to gut you”, “I’m going to kill you” and threatening to beat up the brother of a witness.

One witness stated they saw the accused was placing his hands in his waistbands of his trousers as he issued the threats.

At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday, Sheriff Max Hendry heard there was a history of trouble between the accused and those he threatened.

The trouble escalated when the accused told one witness he wanted to speak to his brother about a previous incident with a hammer.

Solicitor Dewar Spence said: “A member of his family was accused of threatening a hammer against another person.

“He attended at their house to sort the matter out.”

Sheriff Hendry said: “Each and every time you appear in court from this point on its highly likely you will get a custodial sentence.

“There is no indication you’ve had a road to Damascus moment of intervention.”
