Fife Council has agreed to drop dozens of parking fines issued in the midst of this week’s motoring misery.
The local authority had been accused of cynically exploiting commuters caught up in the chaos on Wednesday morning by ticketing around 30 cars parked outwith bays at Dalgety Bay Railway Station.
Angry worker Graeme McAlister said it was the first time in 12 years he had seen cars targeted there, even if they were not in marked bays.
“It seems a cynical and disgusting way to profit from the problems on the Forth Road Bridge,” he said.
“It’s an attempt to exploit people.” Drivers had taken to the trains in an attempt to beat the problems on the roads.
After being contacted by The Courier, council said the patrol at the station had been pre-scheduled and had unfortunately coincided with the lane closures on the bridge.
Spokesman Tony McRae said: “We understand the very unusual pressure that commuters were under and, on this occasion, Anyone who received a ticket for parking outside a marked bay should submit an appeal and we will drop the fine.”
