Police are hunting for scammers who swindled a man out of a four-figure sum.
The scam took place in the car park at Asda Halbeath on Wednesday when three men in a red Citroen approached their 39-year-old victim, offering to sell him three iPhones.
During the transaction, which happened about 4pm, the unwitting buyer handed over a four figures sum of money.
But during the sale the suspects used tactics to distract him and switched over the phones.
When the victim checked the bag he found it did not contain the phones he’d agreed to buy.
Local police officers are now urging others to be vigilant of this scam and come forward if they can help identify these men.
Only one of the suspects was seen by the victim and he is described as being white, 6ft tall with short dark hair.
Inspector Ian Flynn from Dunfermline Police Station said: “The victim was left feeling embarrassed and deeply upset after discovering he was significantly out of pocket and did not have the iPhones he’d agreed to buy.
“Anyone else who is approached to make a similar transaction should not accept and report the matter to police immediately.
“In addition, anyone who can help us trace the suspects or who has information that can assist with our ongoing inquiries should also come forward.”
Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
