Fife Council gives assurances amid concerns over PPP schools
ByCraig Smith
Further detailed checks are to be carried out on Fife’s schools over the next few weeks to reassure the public in light of the Edinburgh scandal.
Fears over safety forced the closure of 17 of the capital’s schools built under a public private partnership deal, leaving 7,000 pupils unable to return to classrooms after the Easter break and prompting concerns about the state of PPP schools built in the Kingdom.
Education chiefs in Fife have stressed that initial investigations and inspections to date have given them “no cause for concern”, but it has been confirmed that independent structural assessments of all 12 PPP schools in the region have also been ordered.
Council leader David Ross said the council is “taking all the steps necessary to ensure the safety of our schools”, although opponents have suggested that initial inspections carried out fell short of expectations.
