Nepali asylum-seeker Kishor Dangol hopes to be back in his adopted home of Kirkcaldy by the end of the week.
Lawyers acting on behalf of the 48-year-old, who is being held at Dungavel immigration removal centre, are set to make an application for bail at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal in Glasgow.
“I hope very strongly that I will be back in Kirkcaldy on Friday,” Mr Dangol told The Courier.
He has been staying at Dungavel since narrowly escaping deportation last Thursday. He was being held at Colnbrook immigration removal centre near Heathrow Airport and was about to be put on a flight to Nepal when he was granted a reprieve.
His lawyers had made a last-minute bid to keep Mr Dangol in the UK and managed to win him another appeal.
Immigration experts at law firm Drummond Miller are confident they can make a case based around his contribution to the community.
Mr Dangol said he intends to make a complaint against Colnbrook after he was locked in a cell for 23 hours a day.
This week The Courier mistakenly reported that Mr Dangol was unhappy with his treatment at Dungavel.
He has told The Courier he has no complaints about conditions at the South Lanarkshire centre and was referring to Colnbrook when he made the claims.
