A vintage “jam sandwich” police car which fetched £9,750 at auction returned home up the A90.
The car was towed up the dual carriageway by a blue jeep and passed its old stomping ground of Stonehaven as it made its way to Alford.
Mike Ward, curator of Grampian Transport Museum, snapped up the car in Birmingham, which was a new world record for a Rover SD1 at auction.
The 3.5 litre V8 had been restored to its former glory for Channel 4 series For The Love of Cars, which follows actor Philip Glenister and a crew of mechanics as they hunt down and restore vintage classic vehicles.
The 1985 Rover SD1 Vitesse had been a source of interest to the museum for some time.
The Rover’s previous owner, who is based in London, informed staff at the Alford museum that it was to be auctioned, as he felt it belonged in the area.
The 190bhp, 3.5-litre V8 machine was used to catch speeders on the north-east’s busiest roads and was auctioned at the NEC in Birmingham during the Autosport show.
