Carnoustie beach pavilion vandalised

Carnoustie beach pavilion vandalised

Police in Angus want to trace the vandals responsible for daubing Carnoustie’s beach pavilion with graffiti.

The culprits spray painted two images of faces sporting crowns, one of which bore the letters MGOGM. The letters SYNC were also scrawled by the images on the side of the historic building, by the paddling pool at Links Parade.

Local officers understand that the incident happened sometime between Friday, January 2, and Wednesday, January 7.

Late last year, Angus Council agreed to market the iconic building for sale or lease after agreeing it was surplus to requirements.

At the time, Provost Helen Oswald and fellow Carnoustie councillor Brian Boyd appealed for the council to move quickly lest the building fall into disrepair.

As sole remaining tenants, Carnoustie Yacht Club presently uses a portion of the property, but not the main pavilion. The local rugby club recently vacated the pavilion after more than 20 years, having found alternative premises in town.

Anyone with information about the recent vandalism should call the police on 101, or speak to any officer.
