The festive period is now well under way in Angus as three more burghs had their Christmas lights switched on over the weekend.

The Brechin and Kirriemuir switch-ons were on Saturday, following Carnoustie’s on Friday night.

Bravo Brechin invited television presenter Rona Dougall to switch on the town’s lights, accompanied by music from Brechin Pipe Band.

Entertainment through the day included Brechin Brass and the Churches Together Choir, Andover Choir, and the cast of the local panto.

The group have been in talks with Angus Council with a view to the community taking over the Christmas lights.

The Kirriemuir and Dean Area Partnership thanked DD8 Music, Kirriemuir Round Table and Angus Council’s Community Grant Scheme for their contribution to their event.

Music was put on in the Square by DD8 Music Youth Group and Forfar Brass Band, and Santa took up residence in the Community Hub for two hours before the lights were switched on with free hot chocolate provided by Kirriemuir Churches Together.

Auchmithie hosted a festive fair on Saturday but a planned “snow queen” walk was cancelled due to the weather.

Forfar will have its lights on Thursday, Arbroath and Monifieth have their switch-ons on Friday and Montrose has its Christmas Spectacular on December 12 and 13.
