After months of hard work and fund-raising, Angus College SkillZone student Paul Rudunski is celebrating after he was handed the cheques that will fund his dream trip to the 2011 Special Olympics in Greece.

The 23-year-old from Arbroath was last year selected to be part of the five-a-side football team representing Great Britain.

Paul has been playing football for years and has coached football at local primary schools as well as volunteering around youth projects in Angus.

With the support of staff and students at the college, Paul recently hosted a staff v students football match which helped him to raise another £160 in donations and raffle ticket sales.

Local football clubs pitched in with raffle items including signed items from Aberdeen and Dundee United football clubs.

Paul also received a considerable amount of help from the charity United for All, which helped to raise £410 through setting up a JustGiving page.

David Mulholland, the chairman of the charity, presented Paul with the cheque.

He said, “It has been great to be part of helping Paul achieve his goal of attending the Special Olympics. Paul making the team is a fantastic achievement and inspired us to support him. We now look forward to hearing about his achievements as part of team GB in Greece.”

Angus College learner engagement officer Katie Anderson said, “This has been a great experience for Paul who has proved himself as a great ambassador for Angus and for Great Britain. His hard work and dedication too funding this dream trip has now paid off. Well done Paul!”
