A 92-year-old former soldier from Dundee has told how he drove Lady Churchill’s carriage during the funeral of Winston Churchill.

Fifty years ago Harry Nunn, who turns 93 next Thursday, rode as the right-hand man in the carriage carrying Lady Churchill and her two daughters during the state funeral of the legendary politician.

Mr Nunn appeared on the BBC interviewed about his involvement in the historic day.

At the time he was working as a carriage driver for the royal family in London.

He said: “It was a huge honour for me to be chosen. I remember it was freezing cold.

“We didn’t see many cameras or media until we got to St Paul’s Cathedral.

“I wasn’t worried about the media, I was focusing on keeping the two horses well, I wasn’t looking about.

“I know many people were lining the streets.

“You just have to do your job and play your part, I learned not to worry about publicity when I worked with the royal family.”

Mr Nunn now volunteers at the Brae, a riding centre in Dundee which helps people with disabilities.
