Three Dundee College buildings are likely to find a new lease of life as housing developments but it may still be some time before the successful buyers can be identified.
The sites have attracted so much interest on the commercial property market that they have provoked something of a bidding war and college management is having to take some time to sift through more than a dozen offers.
The college is closing and selling off its Constitution Road, Melrose Terrace and Graham Street buildings to concentrate its presence on just two sites Gardyne Road and Kingsway.
The £48 million redevelopment of the Gardyne Road campus is expected to be completed by May and the move of 3000 full-time students, 12,000 part-time students and 200 staff, along with their equipment and files, should be in place by the start of the new session in September.
A closing date for the sale of the surplus buildings was fixed in November, but the closure of the college because of the winter weather led to initial delays in consideration of the offers on the table.
“We are delighted to report that we have had substantial interest in the sale, resulting in 13 bids,” said Dundee College depute principal Grant Ritchie.
“Some of these are for one site, some for a combination and some for all three.
“However, we are some distance away from narrowing down the final detail and seeing these bids purified.
“Despite this we remain confident that the sites will sell and the resultant developments, mainly housing based, will benefit the city.”
