Jail for man who punched woman unconscious

A man who punched a woman unconscious was caught on CCTV, and also made sexually violent threats against the grandmothers of the police officers who came to arrest him.

Andrew William Adamson, 24, was picked up by CCTV operatives punching his victim in the face then walking off and leaving her unconscious.

The victim was only just regaining consciousness when officers arrived on the scene.

When they tracked Adamson down he launched into a tirade of sexual threats.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard how Adamson, a prisoner at Perth, made sexual threats against the grandmothers of the officers and claimed he would give them sexual diseases.

Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court: “He made similar comments about the daughters of the police officers. He also made similar disgusting comments about the mothers of the police officers.”

CCTV footage of the assault was shown to the court, after which the victim was described as “not moving at all”.

Adamson admitted the early-hours assault in November, which took place on Commercial Street, as well as behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards police officers, and uttering threats against their families.

Jailing Adamson for 17 months for both offences, Sheriff Alistair Carmichael said: “This conduct is utterly disgraceful.

“Because of the nature of the assault on CCTV, and the nature of the highly unpleasant things you said to police officers, the only appropriate sentence is a custodial one.”

The sentence was backdated to November.
