Dundee United fans have paid their respects to legendary player Ralph Milne.

Thousands of Arabs braved torrential weather to pay tribute to the 54-year-old before the Scottish Premiership match with Kilmarnock.

Fans were greeted by a large banner on the pitch which read “thanks for the memories” underneath a massive picture of the winger.

A minute’s silence proceeded kick-off, while players wore black armbands to mark his passing after a long battle with liver disease.

Fans also paid homage during the 4th minute of the game the moment Mr Milne scored the goal which won United the league in 1983.

The fans’ tributes to Mr Milne follows a wreath laying by former United legends on Friday.

Paul Hegarty said: “These are sad times. It is great that some of the boys could come along and pay their respects, especially in front of the club.

“We were a close bunch of boys and we were with each other for 10 or 20 years.

“He was a character both off and on the pitch. We knew he hadn’t been well for a few weeks but then he took a turn for the worse. It was a shock.

“He was a young man only 54. He was a wonderful player and people would come out in their droves to see him play.

“He was the top goal scorer for Dundee United in the European game and he will be remembered for a long time to come.”
