‘There was a lot of giggling’ woman tried to feed Ian’s model duck

Onlookers thought a middle-aged woman was going quackers when they spied her trying to feed a duck with a difference in Dundee.

Amused bystanders were left wondering whether the generous unidentified woman should have gone to Specsavers as she threw crumbs at the bird in Stobsmuir Pond.

Unlike its feathered friends, the mallard stood aloof as it cut its course across the water.

In fact this was no ordinary duck, but a motor-powered fibreglass replica, so well crafted it prompted the unsuspecting woman to feed it.

Creator Ian Hotson (82) said that while the local children are great fans of his unnamed duck, this was the first time an adult had fallen for its charms.

”The kids like it and sort of relate to it,” said the Dundee Model Boat Club member. ”It’s the first time we’ve had an adult taken in, though.

”She was a woman of about 50 and we don’t think she realised. We didn’t want to embarrass her, but there was a lot of giggling afterwards.”

Mr Hotson, who used to carve ornamental ducks as a hobby, used one of his previous offerings as a mould to cast the fibreglass swimmer about a month ago.

He cast another duck at the same time, swelling the ranks of his model boats.
